Religious Education and Formation

ENGLISH BAPTISMAL PREPARATION FACILITATOR

Teaches a one-time class once a month for parents and parents-to-be to instruct them about the Sacrament of Baptism, and how the parent(s) should prepare for this sacrament.  All parents are required to take this class if they wish to have their baby baptized at St. Anne’s.  The class is held at 10:00AM on the second Saturday of the month in the Center Room of the parish office building.

GIFT

Our Religious Education for the whole parish focuses on the Growing in Faith Together (GIFT) program and the GIFT Gatherings. The GIFT gatherings focus our religious education efforts from children to adults and families. The GIFT gatherings are for families, singles, youth, and the elderly (in other words for everybody). Parts of the gatherings such as meals and prayer are done together, and people divide up into groups according to age or interest for other parts.

GIFT is the primary way of teaching the faith to both adults and children. This means we do not have a “traditional” PSR class.  GIFT Gatherings take the place of PSR classes since we feel this is a better way of passing the faith on to children within families. GIFT focuses on adults as well as children and emphasizes that growing in faith is a lifelong process. We have 7 GIFT gatherings, 3 hours long with the whole family, plus take-home activities for the families to use at home. For First Reconciliation and First Communion we have preparation courses for the children and parents before these sacraments. Yet the primary formation for these sacraments will be at the GIFT gatherings.

R.C.I.A.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults—a process for welcoming adult newcomers (inquirers) into the Roman Catholic Church.  RCIA prepares the newcomers for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist by providing a personal journey that leads to a transformation of mind and spirit.  Guided by the Gospel and by the examples set by the church members, newcomers find their place in the community of believers.  It is a personal journey in which newcomers and team members reexamine and deepen their relationship with God.

RCIA CATECHIST/TEAM MEMBER

Works in collaboration with the RCIA director to assist inquirers in deepening their relationship with God, themselves, the parish community, and the whole Church.  To do this, we meet with the inquirers regularly to share faith, pray the scriptures, and share in the Catholic tradition.  The catechists also take an active part in the preparation and celebration of the Rites.

RCIA SPONSORS

Members of the local community who volunteer to accompany the candidates and catechumens through the initial periods of conversion.  The role of sponsor is one of spiritual friend, support and care.  Sponsors represent the parish community in a personal way.  They provide the one-on-one support the catechumen needs during this period of growth and development.  This role is a privilege and a responsibility in the parish. We always try to match to age appropriate.
