IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR RITE OF ANOINTING OF SICK NEXT WEEKEND!

The Rite of the Anointing of the sick will be at 5:15, 8:30 and 11AM Mass next weekend April 12th and 13th.  The first and third row of pews will be reserved for all wanting to be anointed.  Please do not sit in the second row as Fr. Leland will use it to walk from person to person.  Because people wanting to be anointed usually have trouble walking or standing for to long, they will sit while Fr. Leland comes to them but they must sit in the first or third row of the church.  Please see Fr. Leland's bulletin for instruction on who should be anointed.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, calls each of his followers to holiness.  As followers of Christ, we are not capable of this journey to holiness without the intercession of the Holy Spirit.  So what can we do, or what should we expect of ourselves, in our unending journey to the Father?  One action of the will we are capable of is to petition Jesus that our desire for Him increase, and to ask the Father to send forth His Spirit into our lives to transform our lives into a life of grace and union with the Trinity.

In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 11, verses 9-13, Jesus says, “So I say to you, ‘Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.  For whoever asks, receives; whoever seeks, finds; whoever knocks is admitted.  What father among you will give his son a snake if he asks for a fish, or hand him a scorpion if he asks for an egg?  If you, with all your sins, know how to give your children good things, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.”

Saint Teresa of Avila notes the difference between the nominal, practicing Catholic, and a saint is simply the increased desire to unite our total being with Christ.  Eucharistic Adoration is one way we can seek Christ and petition Our Savior to increase our desire for Him.

Jesus, in the Resurrection, has opened the way to the Father.  Is He calling us also to Eucharistic Adoration?

All hours are open to more adorers, though the following hours are vacant:  Sunday 8am, 2pm, & 10pm; Monday 8am, 9am, & 10pm; Tuesday 10pm & 11pm; Wednesday 3pm; Thursday 9am; Friday 6am, 11pm; Saturday 8am, 3pm, & 11pm.

The St. Anne Adoration Chapel is open from 6am – 12midnight 7 days a week.  If you are interested in a vacant hour, or would like to join another adorer any other hour of the week, please call Mike DeRee @ 258-0032 or email mtderee@cox.net

Our March meeting was held on Tuesday, March 11th.
Ron from Dutch's Greenhouse was there to get us ready for spring and we had our annual baked potato supper.  After a brief business meeting we were invited over to Sister Margarets to see her new kitchen!

Our next Altar Society meeting is this Tuesday, April 8th.
Social hour begins at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7:00.
We will be watching a film provided by Sister Margaret and we will be holding elections for next years officers.

See you there!

Tobit Ministry

The Tobit Ministry is seeking some new participants. This group of parishioners pray for the deceased and support their family and friends by attending the rosaries and funeral Masses. It seems improbable, but St. Anne Parish held nearly 22 funerals last year. That’s almost one per week. Some of the deceased are well known in the parish and/or have extended family members who attend the rosaries and funeral Mass. But others have limited family and friends and may have been homebound for several months during which time have become isolated from friends and neighbors. It has been very comforting to family members who may have grown up or gone to school at St. Anne, to find parishioner who greet them and share their grief.

This ministry gets its name from the Book Of Tobit in the Old Testament. Tobit was a very charitable man who went out at night to bury the dead in a respectful manner. The ministry participants are asked to pray for the deceased and their families and attend the rosary and/or funeral Mass if possible. There is a phone tree to alert members of time and place for the planned events. To add your name to the list, just call the parish office (522-2383).

RESPECT LIFE

Kansans For Life’s Prayer Intentions for 2008 are:

  • For young mothers lying on abortion tables who are about to lose their self-esteem, and the babies warm within their wombs, who are about to lose their lives.
  • For all people to realize the impact abortion and euthanasia has on families and our culture.
  • For the Grand Juries in Wichita and Johnson County to have wisdom and courage, and that the judges and officials charged with helping them, do so without political consideration.
  • For the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to assess complaints against abortionists properly.
  • For the Kansas Legislature to pass laws to protect women and unborn babies, and all of us from biotechnology that insults the human person.
  • For the 2008 elections, that we as a society elect quality officials who will respect and defend human life from its beginning until natural death.
  • For those charged with doing so to do their jobs and enforce Kansas abortion laws.
  • For all pro-lifers to demonstrate the love of God in all they say and do in 2008.

JAVA WITH JOACHIM

Men’s prayer group meets after the Tuesday morning Mass in Setter Hall for prayers and coffee. A short form of the morning prayers of the Church leads into a time of intercessory prayer and the novena prayer to St. Joachim, the husband of St. Anne, father of the Blessed Virgin and grandfather of Jesus. This is followed by a time of fellowship and conversation. All the men of the parish are invited to attend. There are no dues, fees, or commitments, just come and experience the great brotherhood we have at St. Anne Parish.

St. Anne’s Handyman Program

Spring is here and the grass and shrubs will soon need to be trimmed and cleaned. The St. Anne Handyman program is available to help with lawn care and minor home/property repairs for the elderly, handicapped and low income parishioners. In the past year the Handyman Program has built wheel chair ramps, replaced light bulbs/fixtures, repaired fences and siding, moved furniture, mowed lawns, trimmed trees/bushes, painted, etc. etc. etc. This program is available for those parishioners who are not able to care for their property as they would like and can not afford commercial home repair and lawn service. The recipient pays for all materials but the labor is free. Donations are accepted for the Knights of Columbus children’s programs. The Knights assumed management/coordination of what used to be called the “Angel Ministry” a few years ago. If you have need of this program call 942-7795 or the Parish Office (522-2383).

ST. ANNE BSA TROOP 810
Submitted by Cyndi DeRee

On March 29, 3 young men from our troop earned the highest rank you may attain—the rank of Eagle Scout.  Matt DeRee, Daniel Bevilacqua, and Dave Whalen were all honored at an Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony held at St. Anne’s Church, followed by a wonderful reception in Setter Hall.  These boys had to organize and supervise a service project.  Over 251 hours were put in on 3 different service projects by these 3 boys, scouts, leaders, and other volunteers.  One of the service projects was the restriping of the parking lots here at St. Anne’s parish, which was Matt DeRee’s project.  Congratulations to all three of these young men!

Our troop will be having its annual garage sale on May 29-30.  Please start saving your items and we will have drop off dates in next month’s Gather Your People.  This is a huge fundraiser for our troop and helps many boys help pay for summer camp every year.  If you have any questions regarding this, you may contact Rhonda Bevilacqua at 721-0277.

We will be going to summer camp at Quivira Scout Ranch this year, located hear Sedan, Kansas.  The cost for each boy is $190, which they pay for out of their scout account.  The boys will work on merit badges, camping skills, leadership, and team-building.   They will be leaving on June 22 and returning on June 28.

If you are interested in joining Boy Scouts, please contact James Vansickle at 943-0136 for more information.

Saint Jesus Mendez Montoya
Priest and Martyr (1880-1928)

At the age of twenty-six, Jesus Mendez Montoya, of Tarimbaro, Mexico, was ordained to the priesthood. Later, as a parish priest, he dedicated his energies to Eucharistic piety, the hearing of confessions, and the anointing of the sick. Father Mendez also taught music and organized an accomplished choir. The anti-Catholic measures of the Mexican government forced him to begin administering the sacraments in secret. On February 5, 1928, immediately after Father Mendez had given Holy Communion to his own sister, he heard a commotion outside. Sensing danger, he attempted to escape through a window, concealing the remaining communion hosts in a chalice under his cloak. Soldiers stopped him, and upon discovering the chalice, asked him if he was a priest. Father Mendez calmly professed his identity. As they were arresting him, he quickly consumed the Eucharist to protect the sacrament from profanation. Looking into the anguished eyes of his sister, he said, “Be comforted; this is the will of God.” The soldiers took him into the village square and shot him to death.
What happiness to be a martyr! Those of us that die as martyrs are given life in our Lord.

Blessed Jose Trinidad Rancel Montano
Priest and Martyr (1887-1927)

Jose Trinidad Rangel Montano, of Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico, was ordained a priest at the age of thirty-one. The years of his priestly ministry were characterized by humility, simplicity, and zeal for souls. Early in 1927 the anti-Catholic regime governing Mexico forced Father Rangel out of his parish on the pretext that he had failed to report his priestly identity to them. He found refuge in the Catholic home of Josefina Alba and her sister Jovita, who were sheltering another priest in hiding, (Blessed) Andres Sola y Molist. The two priests encouraged each other. Turning down the suggestion of his brother that he should escape to the United States. Father Rangel accepted an invitation to celebrate the liturgical rites of Holy Week secretly in a friary of the Minim congregation. The holy days gave him the opportunity to administer the sacraments, particularly to hospital patients. On April 22, 1927, Father Rangel was found and arrested. Resolutely unwilling to deny his priestly identity even under torture, he was shot to death on April 25.
Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves in to her arms with a perfect confidence.
